Lusaka, Zambia | 20 April 2026 – The National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) has officially launched the inaugural NAPSA Pensioners Marathon, marking a significant step in its commitment to promoting health, wellness and active living among Zambians.
The marathon, set for 25 July 2026 at Levy Business Park, is being organised in partnership with the Lusaka Fitness Squad (LFS) and is expected to attract approximately 3,000 participants from across the country.
Speaking during the launch in Lusaka, NAPSA Director General, Mr. Muyangwa Muyangwa, said the initiative reflects the Authority’s evolving approach to social security, one that goes beyond financial protection to embrace holistic well‑being.
“For over 25 years, NAPSA has safeguarded the social security of the Zambian people. Through the Pensioners Marathon, we are extending that mandate by promoting wellness and preventive health, recognising that long‑term security begins with good health,” he said.
Held under the theme “Your Health Is Your Wealth,” the marathon will feature multiple race categories including 5km, 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km, providing an inclusive platform for pensioners, contributors, students and the general public to participate.
Beyond the race, the initiative is designed to advance several strategic objectives, including promoting healthy lifestyles, enhancing public awareness of NAPSA’s products and services, and strengthening engagement with key stakeholders such as members, employers and pensioners.
The marathon will also support broader national development goals, particularly in advancing health and well‑being, while mobilising resources for Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in communities across Zambia.
NAPSA has partnered with Lusaka Fitness Squad, one of the country’s leading running and fitness organisations, to ensure professional execution of the event in line with international standards.
Lusaka Fitness Squad President, Mr. Katai Chola, welcomed the partnership, noting that the marathon represents more than just a sporting event.
“This collaboration brings together technical expertise, community mobilisation and a shared commitment to wellness. We are confident that this event will deliver both a high‑quality race experience and a lasting impact on communities,” he said.
The NAPSA Pensioners Marathon is envisioned as an annual flagship event with potential to grow into one of Zambia’s premier national running events, contributing to sport development, tourism and community engagement.
Proceeds from the marathon will be reinvested into Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focused on health, education and community development, ensuring that the benefits extend beyond race day.
As part of ongoing efforts to increase awareness and participation, the marathon will also serve as a platform to educate the public on NAPSA’s offerings, including initiatives aimed at expanding social security coverage across both formal and informal sectors.
Registration for the marathon is now open, and members of the public are encouraged to sign up via https://pensionersmarathon.com/.
Further details on sponsorship opportunities, prizes and nationwide activation activities will be announced in due course.
